‘REBOOTING’ FRESHERS TO THE WORLD OF ROBOTICS

The evening of 29th of December, 2016 saw the seniors of Robotics Club of CEG hold their first meet for the first year students at Hall 74 in the Red Building.

Palaniappan Chellappan, President of the club, welcomed everyone jovially and delivered a brief introduction on the club’s activities. He explained how interest, grit and determination takes one forward as a member and how the club serves as a good platform for students to learn about technology outside their Major, as Robotics comprises of electronics, computer science and mechanical engineering.

This interdisciplinary experience would give students an edge over their peers as it not only teaches them practical applications of topics learnt in theory, but also adds significant weight to their Resumes.

He shed light on all the opportunities including workshops and seminars organised for club members throughout the year to hone their skills and learn more about the subject. The club is also responsible for organizing events at ‘Kurukshetra’, the annual Techno-Management fest at CEG.

Members are also encouraged to participate in inter-collegiate robotics competitions, some of which provide opportunities for winners to intern at reputable companies. By the end of four years, the senior members believe that interested students could become well-versed in at least one aspect of robotics such as coding and image processing to name a few.

The session concluded with a display of video clips of previous projects that included voice-controlled robots, chessboard robots and humanoid robots.

The meet left the students enthusiastic at the prospect of participating in the upcoming activities organised by the club.
